Places Make People produces Community Storybooks: beautiful, full-color picture books that provide lasting documentation of the character of communities and the sacred, storied places people value.

Vickie Berkley and Darcy Kitching developed Community Storybooks in 2010 to help residents of towns in transition capture and share their community’s values with visitors, investors, friends, family, and future generations. We pair the stories gathered during values-based community planning processes with carefully crafted professional photographs, making local values visible and accessible to all.

Community Storybooks can be offered for sale through planning departments, chambers of commerce and visitors centers; given away with gifts and prize packages at local events; sent to local “alumni” to encourage their ongoing support of their hometown; or used in any number of ways to ensure that the results of values-based community planning processes remain in circulation and conversation for a long time to come.
